The race for taller towers of existed since the 1870's; and its still going. The tallest towers in the world usually represent a meaning, symbol, or achievement of that specific country. Having the middle east working with architecture for the longest time also means that it has a head start. You might be thinking; "why didn't they go all out and made mega structures in the past?" well, its pretty simple. They didn't have courage, they had limits, we ALL had limits, and other small reasons too. Also nobody thought about big buildings. By the late 1800's we started a little at a time; 1880 is more 40 story buildings. 1920's is the big decade; huge growth. Same with 1930's, New York was booming, with 2 big structures, being the Chrysler building and the Empire State Building. So, here is the top ten!
The Tallest Tower[]
The Tallest Tower is the most important. Also the most popular, worldwide. The well known, and most likely the Most popular tower, Chrysler building, became the number one tallest tower in 1930. The tallest tower was beat again in the same city, same country, the United States. The Empire state building
became the tallest tower in 1932, beating the Chrysler Building. But today, the tallest building / structure in the world is the well known tower in Dubai, the Burj Khalifa. It stands 2,717 feet in the air, and is 163 stories high. It was build in 2010. But, the Kingdom Tower, being build at this moment, is, in 2019, the biggest building in the world. But that is 4 years away from now.
